The Next Big Thing...

There PINK Goes!
Photo of Pink

Lindzi.com: Was there a specific person who influenced There You Go?

Pink: When I wrote that, I was really angry at someone that I'm probably still angry with. I don't write love songs because I'm not in love. So I basically write about experiences that I've had or stuff that's embarrassed me or even something that gets on my nerves. Basically, writing is my vent. So, There You Go was like that. I'd always wanted to have the upper hand in that relationship and the only way I could have that was through the song.

Lindzi.com: Which came first - the name or the hair?

Pink: The name. Many many years before the hair. It was always my nickname when I was a little girl. My friends named me that because I was the only girl in my click. I mean, my hair's been blue, green, tie-dyed, whatever.

Lindzi.com: What can we expect to see next?

Pink: I don't even know! {laughs} Something crazy!

Lindzi.com: What are your goals for your career?

Pink: I want to take over the world and paint it Pink!

Lindzi.com: Tell me a little about your upcoming album.

Pink: It's crazy. My favorite word is eclectic. It's really hard for me to categorize it. To explain myself in a nut shell, I'm eclectic and versatile. I love like all kinds of music. Even over the hard hip hop tracks you can hear the influences from rock and gospel and opera and alternative. There's a lot of influences going on in my brain and that came out in the album so I'm really happy about that.

Lindzi.com: Which track is most like your personality?

Pink: Oh, Split Personality!

Lindzi.com: Split personality?! What drives you insane?

Pink: I hate fake people. I hate liars. Example: Someone comes up to you somewhere a party. Somewhere.. anywhere... on the street... "Hi Pink. I missed you so much. Oh my God, you look so good!" and they turn around and say "Why the hell did she wear that? What is wrong with her?" I'm a very honest person. Sometimes I put my foot in my mouth, but at the same time, it's like my motto. :: If you're truthful and honest you might not have that many friends, but you'll never have any enemies because everybody will always know where you coming from ::

Lindzi.com: You've said you've gone through many phases in your life, as do most people. What phase would you say you're in now?

Pink: See, that's the thing. I went through so many phases. I felt like I was grown when I was ten years old. Right now I don't really think I'm going through phases. I think that all the places I've been and all of the things that I've tried and all of the avenues I went down, I made one big street with it and I'm on that street right now. I'm just kinda in between everything. I'm a collaboration of everywhere I've been and everything I've liked. Now, it's just the best of everything.

Lindzi.com: Who would you like to collaborate with?

Pink: Definitely Steven Tyler from Aerosmith. I would love to do a song with Tina Marie. Wow, Lauryn Hill. Their individuality and honesty is what I find most appealing.

Lindzi.com: Is there anything that you didn't get a chance to put on this album that we can expect to find within your sophomore album?

Pink: There's tons of stuff. I'm on LA's last nerve right now. I'm the type of person... I keep writing and writing and writing and I keep coming up with songs and we just had to close the album. It was getting to be ridiculous. It was like "What about this one? What about this one?" I have to give some of them away and keep some of them and just keep writing. With me, it's like sparatic. I can not write for two months and then just have a week where I can't sleep I'm writing so much. I could be looking in someone's window and they could be having an argument and I'll just start writing. I'll sit down on the pavement and write on the sidewalk. I just have to write. I have to write it to read it. I'm so much better at writing than I am at talking.

Lindzi.com: I understand you're close with your father. How has he affected your life and your career?

Pink: He's actually my manager. My dad and I are best friends. My mom and dad split up when I was about 7. I stayed with my mom until I was about 14 when she kicked me out. I didn't have very much contact with my dad in between those years, but up until I was 7, he raised me. Now, we're basically the same person. I'm him reincarnated. I have his attitude, his mouth, his insight... everything. He writes poetry. He sings, plays guitar. He was a Vietnam veteran. A boxer. Whenever we talk, it's like I'm talking to myself, but a much wiser version. I've written songs about Vietnam from being a kid growing up with that knowledge of war.

Lindzi.com: What does your father think of all of this?

Pink: It's funny. My dad told me the other day, "I tell people what my kids do and they don't believe me." My brother's a pilot in the air force. He flies F15's. My dad was in the air force and loaded bombs in Vietnam and he sang in a group in the air force. It's like me and my brother are living out both of his dreams and this is all thanks to him. He's given me so many different kinds of strength. He didn't teach me a bias version of life. He gave me reality and always taught me to be open minded and to respect people who respect me. He raised me right.

On the Beach with Bosson

Bosson Photo

Things are definitely going well for Bosson. He's currently on tour with Britney Spears and We Live is getting mad radio play and even though you'd think Bosson wouldn't have time for the little people, this Swedish sweetheart took time out of his schedule to spend a couple hours with us on the beach.

Lindzi.com: So, what is it that "you live and die for?"

Bosson: Right now. I live for music and love. It's kind of basic, but for me it's very important. To love and to be loved.

Lindzi.com: Would you ever combine the two -- music and love?

Bosson: Yeah, why not? I was together with Miss. Sweden '98 for one year. We broke up like two months ago because it didn't work. I'm everywhere right now. Before that, I was with Miss. Sweden '97. It's crazy, I know, but it was just a short while. I'm very bad at relationships. I've been doing so many things. I haven't been focusing on it. Right now it's very hard to have one. Actually, it's always been hard for me. It's not that I didn't have a chance, I just never allowed myself to give up the time. When you meet the right one, you meet the right one. So, now I'm single, actually.

"You need to enjoy the moment. What you have now you never thought you would have last year and you don't know where you'll be in half a year from now... if it'll be bigger or if this'll be as big as it gets. That's what We Live is about. The lyric says it best, 'We live and we die and we learn to find the things we live and die for.' Like now -- we're sitting here and this is life. We can have big moments like climbing Mt. Everest and or small moments like sitting here drinking tea. The song's all about taking chances."

Lindzi.com: When did you decide you were interested in music?

Bosson: I've been singing since I was four or five. I listened a lot to the radio to Swedish songs. I would learn the lyrics. I liked to listen to all kinds of music. I would do small performances, when I was young, for my parents' friends and at Christmas. I remember one time I went to Italy with a camping wagon and I had a performance outside the camping wagon. I would do crazy things like that. I always knew I was going to perform and sing in some kind of way. You just feel it. I went to school and studied economics for years. When I was 19, I quit school and started to work with singing in another way. I did different shows. Then, I understood that this was what I wanted to do. Before it was a hobby.

Lindzi.com: Where did you get your nickname Bosson from?

Bosson: My father's name is Bo. In Sweden, we have like "Anderson" and "Hanson." I was like, "Okay, my father's name is Bo. I should be Bo-son." It's a surname in Sweden. My last name is actually Olson. So, I thought, "I can call myself Stafan Bosson." I just decided to keep it at Bosson like Prince or Madonna.

Lindzi.com: Is all of your family back in Sweden?

Bosson: My little sister lives in Los Angeles. She did a lot of modeling and ended up there and has been there for a couple years now. My mother and father live in Sweden and my bigger sister lives in Sweden, also.

Lindzi.com: Is it difficult to be so far away from your family?

Bosson: We've always been like that. My whole family's been traveling all the time. They stayed in Rio for four years. It's been crazy. For them, it's nothing. It's okay.

Lindzi.com: How's your album coming along?

Bosson: It's great! Fantastic. Help me! {laughs} It's coming along very well. It's going to be a great pop album. I write myself and I also produce a little bit. I've been to Japan and Brazil and Finland and Sweden and Germany and I've been around doing different things. Now that things are starting to happen here, I had to write a new album in 1 1/2 months because we had We Live on the radio at Kiss FM and signed a big deal with Capitol. Everything happened very fast. I knew that if I didn't write songs that were good enough that they would take some other song and put it on the album. So, I thought, "I've got to do this." I was under pressure, but it worked out really good. I was inspired and just worked and wrote and got inspiration like this. I wrote like eight songs in one and a half months.

Lindzi.com: Do you have a particular favorite track?

Bosson: One in a Million. Where Are You is another song that is really nice. I Don't Want to Say Goodbye is another song that's good.

Lindzi.com: What are your fans in other countries like?

Bosson: The craziest fans were in Brazil. I was going out on stage and I couldn't even hear my own music. I was totally shocked. They were so intense and so loud. They gave so much. It was fantastic. It was such a rush. When it hits you and they're so passionate and they just sing along and scream, then I feel like I have to give back. My problem was like, "How can I possibly give all the love that you're giving me right now?" It's crazy, but it's a lot of fun, also.

Lindzi.com: If you could take one thing from Sweden and bring it to the US, what would it be?

Bosson: Swedish candy! Oh yeah. I'm crazy about candy. We have a lot of different candy. I have my favorites. I'm almost addicted. I had to eat for like one or two weeks and then I had to stop because I know if I eat that much, I'd kill myself. It's like a drug. It's not really like that, but sometimes it feels like it. I think you guys have almost everything. I'd maybe bring over healthier food. We have a lot of fibers and things like that.

Lindzi.com: Who would you like to collaborate with on a song?

Bosson: Why not Britney Spears?

Lindzi.com: What do you look forward to most about your upcoming tour with Britney and LFO?

Bosson: To date Britney. I don't care about the music. I don't care about the music at all. I'm just here for Britney. haha. What did I say?? Just kidding. I just look forward to touring. Since I'm the opening act, I have like 15 minutes. I have to take care of those 15 minutes and enjoy it. The people will come for Britney and LFO and hopefully they'll catch onto my music, as well. I just look forward to the whole thing. The tour is 25 dates. I don't know how much time we will spend with the others. It's going to be me and my tour dancers doing our little thing. Some places are going to have 10 - 15 thousand. This is going to be very big. Thank you, Britney! It's going to be great. It'll be a really good opportunity for me to come out.

Lindzi.com: When will you first know you've hit it big?

Bosson: I won't know. I'll always be the same. Tomorrow you will do other things, but you won't change. I've released records before and been doing this for a while now. I know it's tough to get the record to break. I guess you'll feel it when you are busy.

Lindzi.com: What drives you insane?

Bosson: I'm very much an honest and caring person. I'm also very giving. So, I get really upset when people try to take advantage or step on your toes... people who think that they stand above other people and tell you what to do and have an attitude like that. I hate that.

Lindzi.com: Now, you write all of your own music... what's the best atmosphere for writing a song?

Bosson: The best atmosphere is where ever your emotions can run free. When you're in some kind of mood, you should put your feelings down on paper. After seeing Titanic, I wanted to write some kind of song that affected people the way the movie affected me. That, or on the beach, with two lovely girls. {laughs}

What a charmer! Be sure to pick up his upcoming album!

Phoenix Stone

Picture of Pheonix Stone

There must be something in the water. Orlando keeps popping out more and more stars just as you begin to think this whole pop craze is over. Now, nothing's wrong with that as long as they keep it original, but take a listen to Phoenix Stone's upcoming self-titled album and you'll recognize each song -- or so you'll think. The entire album is definitely stuck in the 80's, but "I Want You Tonight" tops it all as a dead ringer for Backstreet's "Larger Than Life." Phoenix does get a few brownie points for the fact that he wrote and co-produced several songs on the album, unlike most yielding friends of Mickey. Come on guys, let's do the time warp again and come up with some more original material!      *Album debuts this summer*

Sure, M2M's sweet and 16 years of age, but these two defy Pop's Law of Stardom. That's right, M2M write their own music AND {{gasp}} play instruments. Marit & Marion came from over seas in an effort to give pop acts a good name. After all, these two won Norway's equivalent of a Grammy before they even hit puberty. These two don't belong on a middle school tour, which they're currently on, they should be headliners for Lilith Fair. Having your name tied down to the Pokemon Soundtrack can't do much for teenage appeal. Oooh, now you recognize them?! "The Pokemon Chix! They sing that Don't Say You Love Me Song, huh?!" That would be them. They also sing The Day You Went Away, Mirror Mirror, Girl In Your Dreams... and a whole entire album's worth of self penned songs. Give them a chance, girls! THIS is true girl power!       *Album in stores now*

R ANGELS

Picture of R-Angels

These four girls have more spunk than when the five Spice Girls were together as one. While Where's The Party, R-Angels' debut album, contains several of the same 'ole chewy tunes, you can't help but catch onto the group's vibe. You see, the album is much like jello. It's flowy, fun, and colorful. Just skip over their typical pop ballads and go straight to the group's first single, "I Need To Know." You might as well buy the whole album since you'll wind up wanting their next two singles Intimate and Not The Girl I Used To Be, anyway -- because -- let's face it, there's always room for jello!      *Album in stores May 23rd*
