My Life as a Reality Show::
The Teen Vogue Young Hollywood Party

::By Lindzi Scharf, Originally written for Hollywood.com::

What if your life was a reality show? At the Teen Vogue Young Hollywood party, I could’ve sworn I was in one. Surrounded by a who’s who of accomplished teenagers and early something men and women, I couldn’t help but bask in the real life insanity of it all.

Inside the party…

Ladies man Wilmer Valderama sat in a corner booth away from the Young Hollywood crowd. I didn’t recognize his crew, but you can be sure Lindsay Lohan wasn’t included. I did, however, notice a few men who looked like bodyguards, but I’m hesitant to say for sure. I mean, Wilmer? Bodyguards? Come on!

Nearby, Hilary Duff sat with boyfriend Benji Madden. What world was I living in? I called a friend to share. Just as I said hello, Erika Christensen passed. She thought I was talking to her and enthusiastically returned my greeting. I giggled and continued on my way.

On the opposite end of the room, Lohan avoided drama and kept to her new group. Wearing a white Chanel gown, she greeted Nicole Richie with a hug. The pair caught up with Kirsten Dunst standing close by. Unlike Richie, in a purple Costume Nacional dress, Dunst was dressed down in jeans and an informal top, hair pulled back, wearing little or no make-up.

I may not have had designer digs, but I knew I could mesh. I approached a group of journalists I met earlier and joked, “You’re the only faces I recognize who aren’t on television.” And, with that, I had my own group.

We watched the drama unfold together. It was insignificant, but felt just like high school. Paris Hilton made an appearance later in the evening. She did at least two loops around the party passing Richie’s crew. She snickered a bit as she guided Kimberly Stuart around.

To add to the drama, it appeared the Laguna Beach cast members (Stephen, Jason, Alex, Talan) were not only present, but being filmed by MTV. I guess I wasn’t alone in the realm of reality. Of course, no one was watching me. The benefit of being a nobody pretending to be a somebody? I was omniscient.

Random sightings: Josh Jackson chatting with Ali Larter. Adam Levine participating in polite conversation with a beautiful, but unrecognizable girl. A punk-rock looking Taryn Manning, pre-her terrifying Jet Blue flight. Jack Osbourne with two unrecognizable guys.

Off-record convo: Michelle Trachenberg asking Hailey Duff, “Where’s Hilary? I didn’t bring her birthday present.” Her response? “Well you’re going to see her on…” and then inaudibly saying the day of the bash

On the press line…

Featured in Teen Vogue’s new Young Hollywood issue, My Wife and Kids star Jennifer Freeman stopped to chat with press. Dressed in “expensive” Marc Jacobs boots and Frankie B jeans, she laughed about her sense of style pre-Hollywood: “I used to wear overalls every day. They were really baggy. I look back and cringe.” Now she looks up to the likes of Nicole Kidman. “You can look at pictures of her on Wire Image from ten years ago. She looks classic, nice, sexy, and beautiful,” said Freeman.

Andrea Bowen, of Desperate Housewives, chose an edgier star. She said, “I really like Keira Knightly. She is so versatile. She can be dressed up and look glam and fabulous. At the same time, she can show up at another event and be punky. I think that’s cool. That’s what fashions all about—expressing yourself and the mood you’re in. If you want to be girly, you can do that or if you feel edgier, you can do that too. She really pulls it off. She’s not afraid to do it.

Newcomer Julian Morris (of the upcoming Cry Wolf with Jared Padalecki) joked that Michael Jackson was his style icon. When asked what teen star has the best style, he responded, “She played the one with the big tits in that movie with the porn star. Something Blair… Selma Blair?” Something tells me he was a bit confused. Perhaps, he was thinking of Elisha Cuthbert in the Girl Next Door? I’ll have to ask him next time I see him.

Talan Torriero of Laguna Beach chose Mary-Kate Olsen as his favorite teen star with style. “She’s one of my friends. It almost seems like she throws everything on all of a sudden and still looks good. Maybe it’s because she’s so good looking. She’s got that hippie, bohemian thing going on. I really like that.”

Nikki Reed managed to sneak by the press line and chatted with Michelle Trachtenberg for a few. Trachtenberg obliged to a convo and told me, she adores classic beauty Audrey Hupburn. She said, “She makes fashion worthy.”

Laura Breckenridge (of The WB’s Related) couldn’t agree more. She said, “She had a unique sense of style. Judy Garland as well. She’s so classy. Even when she performed, she wore a blouse and pants and she stole the stage. No one could take their eyes off her. Those women knew fashion was to compliment yourself and not overpower yourself. The people of old Hollywood will remain style icons. Those that we look up to have a timeless sense of style.”

Amy Astley, the evening’s hostess and editor-in-chief of Teen Vogue, admitted she had her own style icons growing up. She cited Deborah Harry, Phoebe Cates’ wholesomeness, and Madonna’s originality as influences.

With the party’s impressive young hollywood turn out, most styles – from casual to punk to glam – certainly had a representative. And I had one evening, so surreal, it belonged on a reality show.
