When the interest began...

"Probably about 7 years ago. I've always danced. Ever since I was a child, I've had a great love for dance. As I got older, I started to go for it. It was never really a choice. I always knew what I wanted to do. I really loved watching Michael Jackson. He was definitely a mentor."

He advises...

"Learn as much as you can and watch as many old movies and videos. I always say find out as much as you can about the business because that's what we're in show-business. So, it's really important you know what you're worth."

The inspiration...

"My body is totally like a instrument the music uses. I don't think about the dance steps. They just come out when I listen to the music. I just do what the music tells me to do. My classroom is from watching old movies and plays so I just think about doing the best that I can do. Cutting edge, to me, is when you go with something that you feel. You just go with it, trust it, and can't worry about if anyone's going to like it."

The big break...

"I think maybe Color Me Badd - Sex U Up. The director Lionel Martin called me in, after dancing in so many of his videos, he finally asked me to choreograph for him."

The advantages...

"Not having to audition for anyone. Being able to put dance steps together that are your expression. It's a lot of hard work, though. It's definitely lucrative, but that's not what I concentrate on. I concentrate on the art."

The competition...

"Again, I just really concentrate on the art form of it. Everything else winds up following through. I don't really worry about the competition."

The dancers...

What to do if they can't dance?! "I've actually been blessed not to have to deal with that... Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears, 'N Sync, Jordan Knight... all amazing. Dru Hill, Michael Jackson, Prince... they're all amazing performers."

Favorite dances...

"I'm coming out with a dance tape called Darrin's Dance Grooves. I'll be teaching all the famous dance steps that I taught in all of the videos, but broken down."
