The teen beauty queen is here to answer all your homecoming related "Ask Lindzi" letters.
| I have very fair skin and
consequently am afraid to take chances with my look. If I wear make-up that's
too dark I tend to look pale. If I wear colors that are too light, my eyes
don't seem to stand out enough. Meanwhile, I want a look for homecoming that'll
shock people! Any suggestions?
Wende: You can pull off a homecoming look that will shock, startle, and amaze people . . . and you can still look beautiful. My suggestion is that you make sure to get your brows waxed pre-event. Then use a brow powder or eye shadow (a shade lighter than your brow color) to fill them in and frame your eyes. Once you have a strong frame, you can pull off some stronger shades of eye makeup. I like clear, strong colors for fair skin. Avoid really dark shades or you'll look very PCB and so late-80's. Think about colors like Urban Decay's Acid Rain and Mildew. Now this doesn't mean you shouldn't line your eyes with a dark color... just make sure the liner sets off your eyes and doesn't overwhelm them. One of my personal favorite tricks is to line my eyes with Soot Eye Pencil, then dust Asphyxia shadow over it, blending into the crease. Asphyxia is a duo chrome (2-tone) color; so when you apply it over the black, it turns electric blue. On bare skin, it's an iridescent purple. It's a strong look, but compliments are guaranteed. Another option would be to go kind of neutral on the eyes; maybe just a sparkly beige shade like Midnight Cowboy. Use one of our intense Liquid Liners and line the top lash line, giving yourself cat eyes. Then apply Urban Decay Rocks (glue on crystals) to the inner and outer corners of your eyes. I could go on forever about options, but it's important that you finish off those dazzling eyes, by playing it cool with your lips. Line them with a nude lip liner like Midnight Cowboy, then fill them in with a beige gloss, like Midnight Cowboy Lip Gunk shines or Biker shines, which has teeny sparkles. |
| I recently went to the
tanning salon just to test it out for homecoming and am peeling like crazy.
I may want to try a self tanner just before the big day, but am afraid it'll
come out horrible and then I'll be stuck with it. What's your take on tanning
salons and self tanners? What's the best way to apply the product?
Wende: Well, I would never go to a tanning salon. However, I live in sunny SoCal and am often tan. If I were you, here's what I'd do: A... NEVER go to the tanning salon ever again. Never inflict that much damage on yourself unless you are doing it by enjoying your life outside. B... A couple of days before homecoming, exfoliate your skin well with a salt scrub and loofah. C... Apply a rich moisturizer all over D... Buy a really good self-tanner from a department store. E... Enlist the help of a friend to apply the self tanner evenly all over your body while you stand up. How much or little clothing you wear is up to you. F... DO NOT APPLY TO YOUR FACE! Blend it where your collarbones and neck meet, mixing it with moisturizer to avoid streaking! G... Let the tanner soak in before you sit or get dressed. H... Use a little bronzer and blush on your face for the big day. |
| Ya know how eye make up
tends to end up all messy at the end of the night? How can I avoid this?
Also, I hate how lipstick tends to make your lips peel through out the evening.
How can I give my make-up staying power to pull an all nighter?
Wende: If you are out dancing and sweating a lot, use waterproof mascara. Be sure to remove it at the end of the evening with a proper remover, even if you are dead tired. You'll hate yourself in the morning if you don't. Also, avoid dripping shadow by layering it with liner. Used together, their staying power is multiplied. It's kind of like "Wonder Twins Power -- ACTIVATE!!". Apply some pencil eye liner, then use a small shadow or liner brush to lay down some powder shadow on top. You can layer the same colors, or try mixing for interesting effects. As for peeling lips, all I have to say is try another lipstick! Our lipstick doesn't make your mouth flaky. You can also try using a little bit of L'Occitane Shea butter, after lining your lips. Next, apply your lipcolor. Better yet, try our Lip Gunk. They will look so glossy and kissable. |
| Our school is doing a funky
masquerade ball. This'll really give me a chance to make up my face... I'm
thinking glitter, gems, and bold colors. What products do you suggest and
in what way should I apply them?
Wende: I recommend using it all... glitter, gems and bold colors. After all, who wouldn't want to be sparkly? Just be careful. You want to look dazzling and pretty, NOT dazzling and a disaster area. So think about this: instead of chunky glitter, try the fairy dust-sized version. You'll get the same amount of sparkle, without the distracting chunks of Mylar on your body and face. You can use Urban Decay's FX Powder (holographic silver) or Liquid FX lotion in three shades (iridescent gold, holographic silver, sparkling pink). Then apply some gems in an orderly fashion. I like making necklaces, gluing them into my hair, placing them at the corners of my eyes, and putting three (a large, medium and small) along my upper cheekbone, just under my eye. I would pick a couple of places for them, depending on the fantasy you are trying to create. Try Urban Decay Rocks! You get an assortment of 25 gems plus latex glue. Definitely be bold, but have a mission in mind before you start. I suggest a test run with some girlfriends before the ball. Allow yourself plenty of time to get ready. All that glitters takes a lot of time. |
| I absolutely love Christina
Aguilera's new look with the red streaks in her hair and want to copy it
for homecoming. Do you suggest extensions or hair color? I'm not into anything
permanent. Just a little something different for the evening.
Wende: The solution is simple. Try our UD40. It's color for your hair or body that lasts just a day. Red is available if you want Christina's look, or in other colors that you may like better. Each cylinder of product comes with a comb, to make it easy to apply. Gwen Stefani mixed the blue and silver together, and covered her head completely for baby blue locks. I like to put tiny braids in my long hair, then coat each braid with a different color. |
